Reasons to Visit Lisdoonvarna
Lisdoonvarna is a perfect springboard for exploring County Clare. It is a quintessential Irish town with an amazing music scene and it sports many great pubs. It sits nestled in farm land but just a short drive away are the Cliffs of Moher, the musical capital of Doolin, the culturally rich city of Galway, the striking Aran Islands, great surf beaches, and the remarkable Burren. It has just the right balance of central location and quiet town.
There are plenty of B&Bs in the area (AirBnB and small hotels) to accommodate the huge influx of people for the yearly Singles Festival. Even with this, Lisdoonvarna is usually a quiet and unassuming town even in the peak of summer.
There is nothing like coming back from a long day exploring the coast and the Burren to enjoy a nice meal of locally caught smoked fish and then settling into a comfy seat in the local pub (my favorite is The Roadside Tavern) and enjoying a pint of the black stuff while you chat with the locals and enjoy the traditional music.
