Meet the Team

Janice Waugh, publisher of Solo Traveler

Janice Waugh

Janice is founder, publisher, and contributor to Solo Traveler, a website she conceived of based upon her own need for better information about traveling alone. As she traveled around the world and wrote about her experiences, shared tips and advice with readers, and brought on other travelers with complementary skill sets, she grew the blog into the definitive resource and community for those who travel alone.

Janice is a go-to authority for the media on the topic of solo travel. She's been interviewed by the New York Times, CNN, TravelWeekly, The Chicago Tribune, and many more. She has spoken about solo travel at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, the World Travel Market in London, TBEX in North America and Spain, and The Social Travel Summit in Germany and Austria.

Janice is a member of the Travel Media Association of Canada, author of The Solo Traveler's Handbook, and creator of the Wits and Wonder Travel Course.

Tracey Nesbitt, editor of Solo Traveler

Tracey Nesbitt

Tracey is editor and contributor to Solo Traveler and moderator of the Solo Travel Society on Facebook. She has been traveling alone independently for over 30 years, and more recently has also enjoyed tours and river cruises. Interacting daily with the 275,000 members of our Facebook community, Tracey has her finger on the pulse of what is important to solo travelers.

Whether she falls in love with a wine and then sets out to explore the region that gave birth to it, takes cooking classes taught by locals, or seeks out community theaters and new artists, her travels frequently revolve around discovering a culture through food, wine, and the arts.

Tracey has been interviewed for the Globe and Mail, Forbes, Huffington Post UK, Los Angeles Times, and CNBC, and has spoken about solo travel on various radio programs and podcasts.

Natalie Wester, member of the Solo Traveler Content Creation Team

Natalie Y. Wester

Natalie is a retired second-grade reading teacher who once stood with the President of the United States in the Oval Office of the White House as a National State Teacher of the Year. Teaching was her second career for 14 years. Prior to that she’d spent more than two decades in business, during which time she ran her own award-winning consulting practice.

At 59 and single, Natalie retired from teaching in 2019. Then, as a first-time solo traveler, she wandered around the world by herself for 70 days with only one carry-on bag. At 61, she launched The Hot Goddess blog and began a Midlife Reimagined Apprenticeship at a bourbon distillery.

Natalie has left the U.S. to make a new home in Portugal as a solo midlife expat. “I hope by sharing my stories of personal transformation–some funny, some painful, all raw and unfiltered–I can inspire other solo women over 60 to give themselves permission to change the life they’re living so they can live a life they love.” You can follow Natalie on Instagram.

The Solo Traveler Content Creation Team looks forward to experiencing and sharing stories about your destination, tour, or cruise. Contact Tracey to learn more.
